I have found a new store to purchase my notebook adapter and battery from.  I hope they will still be there when I need to make another purchase.  http://aprivatebeach.com/blog/2012/07/buying-a-dell-inspiron-1501-notebook-adapter/

www.westcoastpower.net has closed down.  The battery works fine.  Therefore, I have no complaints.  Unfortunately, I will have to find another online store once this battery dies.

I have received my notebook battery.  It works, and I no longer get an error message that the notebook’s battery is broken.  Furthermore, it came with an instruction manual.

The instruction manual states the following points:

  • The notebook’s battery has microprocessor software.  This software calculates the battery volume during charging or discharging.

Therefore, it is required that the battery be completely discharged and recharged 3-4 times.  This will ensure that the notebook battery will give one the best performance.  This should be done every two or three months to maximize battery performance.

  • The notebook’s battery left at 10% or less power will go into over-discharge state if left for 12 hours or more inside a notebook.  Customers will notice that the notebook’s battery life will be shorter and shorter.
  • If the battery is left in a notebook that is not used for a long time, the battery will be damaged.  If the notebook will not be used for a month or longer, remove the notebook’s battery at 60% to 80% charge from the notebook.  The notebook’s battery will need to be completely charged and discharged every month to maximize battery performance if the notebook’s battery is not going to be used.
  • The notebook’s battery’s life is the about the same whether it is completely charged and discharged or partially discharged and charged.

My notebook’s battery is down to 25% capacity.  Therefore, I decided to purchase a replacement.  Looking at the notebooks manufacturer’s website, the price of a replacement notebook battery makes purchasing a brand new notebook instead more attractive.  Therefore, I decided to look at third-party vendors.

Being the cautious shopper I am, I look around the Internet for various shops, and their prices.  I think going for the cheapest notebook battery is not a very good idea.  If the shop is shady, one may find that the product purchased is a fake, and/or his/her money goes missing.

Http://www.westcoastpower.net/, which is closed as of June 12, 2012, is the shop that I chose.  Although there is not much information about them at the http://www.bbb.org/, they have achieved a B+ rating for number of years in business.  Therefore, I decided to give them a try.

The battery I purchased is 50% cheaper than the original equipment manufacturers.  Therefore, I purchased one.  When I receive the notebook battery, I will give my results.
