I have received both the Smart Cat touchpad and Evoluent’s vertical mouse. Evoluent’s vertical mouse works out of the box in Windows 7 64-bit.
Adesso’s Smart Cat touchpad had some issues when installing the drivers for Windows XP. Although, that was quickly fixed. Therefore, Adesso’s Smart Cat touchpad functions are set up in this way:
In Windows XP, the vertical scrolling, Zoom, go Back one page, and go Forward one page works fine. Horizontal, left to right, scrolling does not work though. As for the 4 buttons, one will see from the above picture that there are actually only 3 buttons. The middle button is on both sides of the touchpad.

I am currently in the market to purchase an ergonomic mouse for my desktop computer. Before I purchase one, I need to know what will work for me.
First, I needed a mouse that can be used without a surface such as a desktop. I considered both a trackball and a touchpad mouse. Unfortunately, trackballs are being phased out, therefore, I decided on a touchpad.

The parts in gray (above) are functions that require the installation of Glidepoint. Glidepoint is currently available for Windows 98 up to Windows 7. Unfortunately, it is currently unknown if it will work on 64-bit Windows.
Looking at the different manufacturers, there is not many to choose from. Therefore, I looked at Adesso touchpads for desktops. I am going to purchase the Smart Cat Touchpad. Since it does not need a surface, it is good for desktop users who like to use a mouse on their lap.
Second, I need a desktop ergonomic mouse that will work on a flat surface. http://www.evoluent.com/vm3.html has an ergonomic mouse that sounds very comfortable and good. Therefore, I will purchase that for other computer.
I looked at various other ergonomic desktop mouses, but they did not appeal to me.
For those looking for an inexpensive option, an ergonomic mouse pad can be purchased instead of an expensive ergonomic mouse. An ergonomic mouse pad can be used with any cheap mouse on the market. As for me, my kids hate using an ergonomic mouse pad. Therefore, I had to find alternatives.
