Purchasing from Overstock.com

I have received my oversize 500 thread count White Down comforter and solid 205 thread count duvet cover set.  Since this is my first purchase from http://www.overstock.com, I do not know what to expect.  Furthermore, never owning a down comforter, I do not know what to expect of the comforter either.  Nevertheless, the products came.  I ordered both in full/queen size, and that is what I got.  Therefore, I have no need to return the products.

Talking to people and reading articles online, down is best for cold winter months.  Therefore, I decided to give it a try.  Visiting http://www.airmilesshops.ca, I chose http://www.overstock.com for the air miles.

Upon receiving the down comforter, I first looked at the tag attached to it.  The tag mentions dry clean only.  Furthermore, it also mentions that this comforter contains a minimum of 75% down and is a full/queen size comforter.  It seems that in the USA, 75% down is the minimum required for manufacturers to label their comforters pure down.

Http://www.overstock.com is a legitimate company. Although, I can see how returning products by mail can be a hassle and a waste of money.  Fortunately, I have not needed to return any products to any online store yet.

When it comes to returns, the purchaser is almost always required to foot the bill.  There are a few companies that will pay return shipping.  Fortunately, the company, in most cases, will pay to ship a replacement product back to the consumer.  Therefore, purchasing products online does have their disadvantages.

Http://www.theshoppingchannel.com, which is a company that my wife often buys from, sells many products like http://www.overstock.com.  The reason I mention the TSC is that both companies have one thing in common.  They both peddle other peoples/companies wares online.  Although, is that not what all online shops do?

For those people looking at all the negative and positive reviews for Overstock.com, I am taking a chance.  I currently placed an order with them and received a confirmation email.  The email states that Fiftyone.com has received my order via Overstock.com.  It sounds odd.  Therefore, I decided to look at Fiftyone.com.  From what I can see, it is a company that allows US shipments to be sent around the globe.  Both companies look legitimate, and I will be waiting for my product.

For those looking to ship things back, I do have some helpful hints at http://aprivatebeach.com/blog/2009/12/save-money-on-shipping-costs/.  Furthermore, a good measure to take when sending stuff back is to purchase insurance.  For a few dollars, one can track where the package is.  Therefore, if a company says that they did not receive the product and refuses to give the money or product back, the recovery of the money or product will go much smoother with insurance.

A friend of mine ordered a Coach purse from Overstock.com a couple of months ago.  She is disappointed with her purchase.  She says that the purse looks cheap and unauthentic.  Returning the product is an option she considered, but she decided to keep the purse instead.  She did not want to lose money paying return shipping.

I am an independent website owner that likes to buy things that I need from different places.  I do not give any type of review and/or ratings for any company that I purchase from.  I document how my experience was, and any additional information that may be useful.
