Actually I have read the much talked about topic that you linked to and it may be that some countries are able to upload gifs but all of the animated pics on the link I provided at Rafik Houmrani fb page whose pics are viewable by the public have a .jpg extension so the gif slips through... but he ain't sharing how he does it and makes a lot of gif lovers envious... This isn't through an app so I don't think he is using the fb tools you suggested..

Thanks anyway David... I'll keep digging... LOL

From what I can see, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=4696059493&topic=3475#topic_top" rel="nofollow">http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=4696059493&topic=3475#topic_top</a> talks about the animated gifs. It seems that there is much talk about it. I looked at page 5, and that is where the reasons can be found. First off, it seems that some countries are still allowed to do it (sounds ridiculous, but it is mentioned on the Facebook forum), but the animations are being phased out. Second, it seems that Facebook is slowly removing the ability to create animated files.

The magic date seems to be May 14, 2010.

As for the animations that are still working, <a href="http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/FBML" rel="nofollow">http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/FBML</a> provides the tools. Unfortunately, I am sure that many will find this method too much work to actually do.

Hopefully, I have answered your question Paul.

Hi... I have come across these animated jpgs on facebook examples here... http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6271403&id=547580780#!/album.php?aid=7893&id=100000876512176&ref=pb

but when I try just renaming a gif it won't allow the quotes in the file extension... so I opened my gif construction set uploaded the gif and the save as "giraffe.jpg" as you said but it saved as an unanimated jpg. I thought maybe it was as you said that it cannot be opened on a hard drive so I uploaded it to Facebook... but it was a still pic there. I am interested in how these few facebookers seem to get around it... Maybe I missed something. Any help appreciated... Thanks
