Unable to connect to secure wireless network on Vista or Windows 7

I had a problem connecting to my wireless network.  Every time I tried to connect, it says it cannot connect, and I click on diagnose problem.  Nothing happens.

My network is secured, and it requires a password.  I expect Vista to ask me to fill in the required information, but it did not.  Therefore, I had to find an alternative.

In order to connect to a secure wireless network, you will have to do it manually.  My Control Panel is set to Classic View.  If you are using the Vista style, you will have to switch to Classic View, or get there another way.

Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center

From there you click on Manage Wireless Networks which will be on the left side of the window.

Click on the +Add button.  From there, click on Manually create a network profile, and fill in the required information.

Unfortunately, if you are unable to connect to your secured network the easy way, this will have to be done.

In Windows 7, the options are a little different.  One will choose Setup a new connection or network.  From there the rest should be straightforward.
