You have a keyboard in one language, but you want to send an email to a friend or family member in another language. Well this can be a problem. Therefore, is there a solution? Yes, there is.
Lets try translating from English to French and then Dutch.
English version
Hello, I am testing out writing an email in English. This email will be translated into French before I send it. Hope this works.
French version
Bonjour, je suis à l’essai un e-mail écrit en anglais. Cet e-mail sera traduit en français avant de l’envoyer. Espérons que cela fonctionne.
Dutch version
Hallo, ik ben tests uit het schrijven van een e-mail in het Engels. Deze e-mail wordt vertaald in het Frans voordat ik verstuur het. Ik hoop dat dit werkt.
You are probably asking how I do this. Unfortunately, I only speak the English language fluently. Therefore, I need to get this translated before I send.
1. I write the message that I am going to send in a text editor.
2. I go to http://translate.google.com/translate_t# or http://babelfish.yahoo.com/
3. I copy the message from the text editor into the message box of the translation website.
4. I choose English >> French and click translate
5. Copy and paste the resulting translation into the email
6. Do a reverse translation from French >> English to ensure that message was translated properly
7. If message is correct, send the email.
You will have to remember that not all words will translate properly. There are many words that cannot be translated. Therefore, try to keep the words simple. Words that are complex may not be translated properly.
Last thing you want is the other person reading your email and reading it wrong.
English to Traditional Chinese
Hello, I would like to go steady with you
你好,我想與你穩定
Resulting English
Hello, I would like you and stability
What does this mean? This means that you like two people, or maybe something else. Many English speakers understand the English version, but the translation gave the wrong meaning.
