A robot for a friend

The technology is there, and it does not surprise me that this is created. It is only a matter of time before we are able to use these to do simple tasks.  Someone did mention that it is a only a matter of time before you will see robots serving you at a McDonalds.

Every year, businesses try to reduce costs by using advanced tools that will do the work of a human worker.  If you look at the self-serve checkouts at many businesses, they are there to replace the cashiers.

After seeing this, I would not be surprised to see a robot used to guide people to the item that they are looking for in a store, or a robot tourist guide in a tour bus.

Many people say that this will be used as a man’s play toy, but that has been created already.  Lar’s and the real girl movie at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805564/ is made with a doll used specifically for that purpose.  Although, it was used differently in this movie, the real purpose of the doll should be obvious.

Therefore, this is a huge step in the right direction.  A tool created to replace many of the simple, repetitive jobs that can be done by a robot.

Technology knows no limits.  Aiko the robot proves that point.

Aiko, a prototype for a female companion.
